- If you receive an error loading your site, view the Site Load Error article.
- Go here if you are trying to update and get a Misconfigured Application error.
- Showit keeps Crashing on Mac OS Lion.
Sometimes on installation or between upgrades or during saving, some issues can arise that can cause preference data or site information to get corrupted causing Showit to not start up properly. The following is a set of steps to try get the Showit application working once you have Adobe Air installed.
Clearing Local Store Files
If your Showit software does not launch correctly or if you're seeing strange issues arise in the Showit software, many times you can clear out the Encrypted Local Store and Local Store files from your computer to fix the issues.
Instructions for each operating system:
Verify the Storage Directory
Showit creates a Storage Directory in your documents folder to cache all the images that you import and use on your site. You can verify that the folder exists and that you have permissions to add files to it but it is not recommended to delete it. Note, by deleting this folder you will not lose any site data as it is stored on our server. However, by deleting this folder you will lose your media tags as these are not stored on the server and only on your local computer. Deleting this folder will also cause you to need to download all the media used in your site as you are working, which will slow down the process. Some files such as Showit Web slideshows and video will not be downloaded again.
Reinstall
If Showit will still not start up, close Showit and then go to the Showit install page and click on the "Install Now" button. This will bring up an install window, choose "Open" and then the "Uninstall" option. After the uninstall is complete, delete both of the folders mentioned above and then restart your computer. Finally, go to the install page and install again.
Mac 3010 Error
If you are on a Mac and you receive an error #3010 when trying to install the update, it is most likely due to an old version of Adobe Air that was installed with an Adobe CS version that isn't allowing itself to update. You can clear this up by opening a Finder window and searching for a file named Adobe which will pop up a plain text file with no extension in the Applications folder as shown below:
Delete this file and then launch Showit and the auto update and installation should complete normally.
Request Support with Logs
If Showit still does not startup, you will need to submit a support ticket with your Log Files. Please read the Log Files article for the location and how to send those.
Windows Vista
There is a known issue with Windows Vista and Adobe Air where in a very small number of cases, Adobe Air is unable to write files into the "Encrypted Local Store". This causes the application to not function and makes it unable to startup or login. You will know that you have this error if the orange loading bar never shows up when starting the application. The only workaround we have found at this point is to uninstall Showit, login to a different Vista user account on the computer, install Showit and use it on this other account. We understand this is a pain and have contacted Adobe and are looking into solutions so that Showit will work on the primary user account.
Mac Power PC & Windows 2000
Adobe no longer supports Windows 2000 or Mac Power PC processors as of version 2.0 of Adobe Air. Please read the Mac Power PC article for a full explanation.
Mac Safari & Flash
There is a known Apple/Adobe issue with a few instances of the latest Safari and Flash that isn't showing the hand cursor when hovering over links in a Flash (Adobe Forum Post and Bug Posting) To resolve:
1. Go to /Applications 2. Find Safari->RightClick->Get Info->Check 'Run in 32-bit Mode' check box. 3. Relaunch Safari 5.1 again.
